We are writing today as a follow-up to our previous message seeking your support of the City of Petal’s upcoming tax referendum. As you know, this summer residents who live within the City of Petal will have an opportunity to vote on the “3 Penny Proposal.” If approved, this referendum will place an additional 3% tax on restaurant sales within the City of Petal. Our current tax rate on these establishments is 7%, this referendum would increase the tax to 10%. In other words, a $1 purchase today would cost $1.07. If this referendum is approved, the same purchase would cost just 3 pennies more at $1.10.
The proposal is expected to generate approximately $750K for the city budget and the revenue would be designated to improve parks and recreation facilities and programs in the City of Petal. The new revenue would replace the current $572K Parks and Recreation budget, allowing those funds to be invested in other city departments or important initiatives, as determined by the Board of Aldermen. The 3 Penny Proposal will provide much needed funding for our city, paid in large part by people who live outside of the incorporated portion of the City of Petal.
The Petal Sports Association is excited about the investment this revenue stream will make in our current youth sports programs and the resources it will provide for growth and improvements in our offerings in the future. In addition to enhancing our youth sports programs, the resources generated through this program will provide revenue allowing our city to make additional investments in the other recreational spaces already in the city and even assist in the development of new ones.
As you consider your support of this referendum, please let us know if you have any questions. We will be happy to follow up with you to discuss any concerns you may have, try to better understand your perspective, and share ours. Over the past few months, we have heard from many of you that this is something you are excited about and ready to support. It is important that the Petal Sports Association is able to show strong support for this project and we are asking you to help us by letting us know you are willing to vote to support this project. 11 & 12 Year Olds PeeWees (Can't be in the 7th Grade for the 2021-22 School Year)
Max on a team will be 25 players, depending on the number of sign ups.
Registration, Dates, and Cost:
Football open NOW until Thursday, July 22, 2021 at midnight. Football Registration Cost is $85.

Uniform Fitting/Document Collection:
Football: TBA (more information will be provided at a later date). A copy of the players birth certificate will be required for new players and we will also need to take a photo of every player for our official book. Deadline for birth certificates will be before the 1st practice. If we do not have what we need, the player will NOT be allowed to practice!

Registration, Dates, and Cost:
Cheer open NOW until July 22, 2021 at midnight. Cheer Registration Cost is $85 (uniform cost is $110.47 and includes custom sublimated top, bottom, and bloomers. Must be paid to vendor (socks, shoes and optional cheer bag will be determined by cheer director)).
Cheer: Uniform fittings and Cheer Camp- July 24, 2021
Location and Times: TBD
(Camp, shirt, poms, and bow are included in your registration fee, but you must be registered and paid in full by July 7, 2021 to be guaranteed a camp shirt)
Will start in the first week in August
Beginning of September and run through November (Playoffs will be first 2 weeks of December) There may be Jamborees at the end of August.
Registration cost does NOT include the player's uniform. Registration must be paid in full by the close of registration or your registration will automatically be deleted. Football and Cheer Uniform Cost will be paid directly to the Vendor during uniform fitting.
Registration fee can be paid online or in person at office using cash or card. If a late registration is excepted, there maybe a $25 late fee and there also could be a uniform late fee as well. If registered after the deadline, you will be placed on a waiting list.

- Due to high volumes of requests and number of registrations we DO NOT except same team requests. Siblings in the same age group will continue to be allowed on the same team. Football and Cheer sibling request will be handled on a case by case basis. The PSA Board has a strict policy on not allowing players to play up an age division UNLESS they do not meet their age groups weight requirements.

With the acceptance of the Safe Sport Act into Law, it is now required for all coaches and assistant coaches to participate in Abuse Awareness Training. In addition to this training, coaches are/will still be required to complete the PSA Coaching application, which allows for us to conduct background checks.
